Josh Heupel’s recruiting efforts for the Tennessee Volunteers football team have not gone as planned this winter. While the team has added star guard Wendell Moe Jr. and wide receiver Amari Jefferson, Heupel has swung and missed on some of his other key targets.
However, when it comes to cornerback Kyndrich Breedlove, he isn’t about to give up. Earlier this week, the Purdue transfer announced his decision to join Arizona State. However, nothing is official until he signs. According to Rivals’ Woody Wommack, the veteran defensive back will pay an official visit to the Vols. Is Tennessee poised to flip?
Despite just committing to Arizona State, transfer defensive back Kyndrich Breedlove is expected to visit Tennessee tomorrow.
Purdue CB Transfer Kyndrich Breedlove will visit Tennessee this week.
This is definitely fascinating. Breedlove confirmed his commitment to Arizona State on Monday. After less than 48 hours, news of his journey to speak with Heupel and his colleagues had arrived. Tennessee needs more help at cornerback, especially since Boo Carter is anticipated to play both sides of the ball.
Breedlove, who is 6-0 and weighs 175 pounds, began his career at Ole Miss in 2021. He played for the Rebels for two seasons before transferring to Colorado in 2023; he spent one season with Deion Sanders in Boulder.
Then, past offseason, Breedlove chose to transfer again, this time to Purdue. In 12 games for the Boilermakers in 2024, he recorded 28 total tackles and three interceptions. Breedlove is currently looking to enter his fourth program.
For the time being, he’ll be heading to Tempe to play for the Sun Devils, but it’s impressive that Heupel was able to persuade him to give the Vols one final look before committing. Breedlove’s visit indicates that he is very interested in returning to the SEC. A positive visit from him might swing things in Tennessee’s favour. Stay tuned.
