Last winter, the Washington Commanders hired Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz to a one-year, $5 million contract with the assumption that he would serve as their starting tight end, providing a veteran presence and leadership to the squad while also supporting Jayden Daniels’ growth. For the first time since the 2021 season, Ertz played every game and produced his greatest statistical season since then.
He was second on the club in receptions, targets, yards, and touchdowns during the regular season, catching 66 passes on 91 targets for 654 yards and seven touchdowns. Throughout their three postseason games, he grabbed 18 catches on 25 targets for 155 yards and one touchdown, including an impressive 11 grabs on 16 targets for 104 yards in the NFC Championship game.
The Washington Commanders’ veteran will enter free agency this offseason.
Zach Ertz, who turns 35 in November, will be an unrestricted free agent for the second straight offseason. Given his age and health, plus the fact that he is no longer as explosive as he once was, Ertz may contemplate retiring this summer. However, he still has some gas in the tank and probably only has one or two more years in the NFL.
Commanders veteran Pro Bowler makes a major decision about his future.
