DEAL AGREED: Padres Have Officially Completed and Announced The Signing Of Boston Red Sox 2.20 ERA Starter In a Blockbuster Trade

As the 2025 MLB season approaches, the Boston Red Sox are completing their roster. Of course, there are still a few major decisions to be made, one of which might be trade for San Diego Padres starting pitcher Dylan Cease. According to Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer, the Red Sox would have to deal right fielder Wilyer Abreu and right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell.

Before acquiring Garrett Crochet, Boston was looking to trade for other starters. However, with the additions of Crochet and Walker Buehler, Boston has seen significant changes. As talented as this rotation appears on paper, the Red Sox must keep their workload under control this season. Moving Abreu may create a position for Roman Anthony, who is widely regarded as Major League Baseball’s top prospect. This may be a win-win situation for both clubs.

Most importantly for the Red Sox. Cease has a 2.20 ERA in 2022 and has performed well in previous campaigns. The Padres gained Abreu, the past 2024 Gold Glove winner who led right fielders with seven OAA. Fernando Tatis Jr., Jackson Merrill, and Abreu in the outfield might help the team’s defence rank among the best in baseball. Criswell can get outs, and while he isn’t an outstanding pitcher, he could be a good option to replace Cease. It remains to be seen what occurs, but Cease would be an excellent buy at current price.
