At the moment, the Cleveland Browns are much more likely to keep DE Myles Garrett than trade him. That doesn’t mean things won’t change, especially since the NFL combine begins next week. A Garrett deal would result in a large return, but perhaps not as much as Browns supporters would prefer.
There have been other proposed Garrett trade plans, but the most of them appear to miss the mark altogether. With the salary cap consequences and the team’s roster, Cleveland must be blown away before making a deal.
The Detroit Lions are an obvious team that should contact the Browns to try to work out a deal, but nothing will match the insane proposal made on ESPN near last year’s NFL trade deadline. According to Lions Wire, USA Today’s coverage of Detroit’s club, Jeff Risdon proposed a reasonable trade proposal that falls short of many fans’ expectations.
Simply put, Cleveland receives two first-round picks, goes up two rounds (from fifth to third this year), then drops one round (2nd to third) in 2026. Martin was drafted in the third round in 2023, although he has only appeared in five games across two seasons.
The main difficulty with the Lions’ proposition is where their picks are and where they are expected to land. Both first-round picks are more likely to be in the second round rather than the top 10, especially with Garrett joining Aidan Hutchinson as he returns from injury.
The 28th and 32nd picks are poor returns for a top-tier pass rusher in the NFL, but they provide the Browns with enough ammunition to rapidly become competitive.
