The Washington Commanders appear to be looking at trade options for their defensive ends, Chase Young and Montez Sweat.
According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the franchise has reached out to other NFL teams to evaluate market interest and “take the temperature.”
This season, Young and Sweat have combined for 7.5 sacks, with Sweat accounting for 4.5 and Young accounting for three.
They are both former first-round draft picks. Young, the second overall choice in the 2020 Draft, has been plagued by injuries since his breakout rookie season. The team even refused his fifth-year option, meaning he’ll be a free agent in 2024.
Montez Sweat, the 26th overall choice in the 2019 draft, has been the more consistent of the two, amassing 33.5 sacks in his career. However, he has yet to record a double-digit sack season, prompting some clubs to ponder Chase Young’s unrealized potential.
The outcome of the next few games will most certainly influence the decision on the future of the two talented pass-rushers.
A trade will most likely be determined by the price the Commanders receive for the players, but Russini believes one of them will be on the move.
