The Miami Heat defeated the Washington Wizards 106-90 on Monday night, boosting their 2024-25 season record to 29-31. Star center Bam Adebayo led the Heat with a strong performance, finishing with 19 points and 15 rebounds. This is Adebayo’s 222nd double-double in his eight-year NBA tenure with the Heat, making him the franchise’s all-time leader.
The three-time All-Star center surpassed the previous milestone set by Rony Seikaly, who played for Miami from 1988 to 1994. The Heat made several social media promotions to commemorate Adebayo’s historic achievement. “HISTORY “With 12 points and 10 rebounds before halftime, Bam is now our franchise leader in double doubles,” the team wrote after Adebayo broke the record in the second quarter.
“Miami’s new double-double king,” the Heat said in a separate post following the game.
“Like I said, I always wanted to be first on something in this organization,” Adebayo stated at the postgame press conference. “I’m not finished yet.” It’s amazing that Rony Seikaly was present to see me break his record. I’ve been trying to break that record for three games now. It simply had to happen while Rony Seikaly was on air.
That is nothing but God and the cosmos aligning for me.”
Seikaly was at the Kaseya Center to witness Adebayo smash a long-standing record. “I just think he’s your prototypical player that every team needs that’s kinda the glue that does all the work,” according to Seikaly. “He works hard, is low-maintenance, and does not require the ball to be successful in a team game.
Those guys are much tougher to discover than those that need the ball or attention.” Adebayo is averaging 17.2 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game this season. The Heat will seek to build on their recent success when they face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday evening.
