“I don’t see it on the radar at the moment,” Shildt remarked of Cronenworth playing first. “We have people that understand the concept of adaptability. As the seasons change, there is always room for new options. I’m not thinking about anything that will happen right now.”

Padres: Cronenworth may have a set position next season
Over the course of his five-year tenure with the Padres, Cronenworth has played first, second base, and shortstop. Last season, however, he split his time virtually evenly between first (85 games played) and second (70 games).

Shildt has since set infield positions throughout the offseason. The 31-year-old is scheduled to play second base. Luis Arraez will start at first base, with Xander Bogaerts returning to shortstop.
