In recent weeks, the Chicago Bears have increased their chances of picking top running back Ashton Jeanty at No. 10 in the 2025 NFL draft. During free agency, the Bears aggressively addressed numerous positions of need and recruited fresh talent, which freed up their draft board to take a chance on a non-premium position in the first round, such as a running back like Jeanty.
The Bears have also expressed direct interest in Jeanty, inviting him to a top-30 visit to Halas Hall (which may have already occurred) and sending one of their regional scouts to observe him in action at Boise State’s pro day on March 26th. According to the most recent ESPN story, the Bears are very interested in Jeanty.
According to ESPN’s Matt Miller, scouts around the league who have “observed” the Bears throughout the pre-draft process have the impression that they “love” Jeanty as a prospect and will strongly consider him with the No. 10 pick.
The Dallas Cowboys may also attempt to trade up from No. 12 and enter the race for Jeanty, potentially leapfrogging the Bears to secure their new lead tailback. The question now is how much the Bears actually “love” Jeanty. If required, the Bears have the draft capital to trade up for Jeanty, as they have two second-round picks (numbers 39 and 41). Getting ahead of the Raiders would probably be the goal, but a trade into the top five could prove too expensive for Chicago.
Jeanty’s explosive playmaking abilities would be a clear advantage for new head coach Ben Johnson as he rebuilds Chicago’s attack from the bottom up. While quarterback Caleb Williams is the primary focus, Johnson has stated that “the best thing” for a rookie thrower is to have a solid rushing game behind him.
The larger mystery, as Miller pointed out, is whether Jeanty will still be available. “The Bears love Ashton Jeanty, according to scouts around the league who’ve observed the team’s activity this offseason,” Miller said. “So the Boise State running back could be the pick at No. 10 … if he’s still around.” Related: Bears Sign Former Third-Round Cornerback After Release From Vikings If the Bears are hooked on Jeanty, the Las Vegas Raiders, who have the sixth pick, will most likely pose the greatest threat. The Raiders did little to improve their backfield during the 2025 offseason and corrected the problem in Round 1.
