On Friday night, the Phoenix Suns will play at home against the San Antonio Spurs, hoping to snap their losing run. Phoenix enters Friday’s game on an eight-game losing run, as their dreadful season continues. Of course, with their loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, the Suns were officially eliminated from the playoffs, a surprising outcome given their lofty hopes heading into the season.
While their season is effectively finished since they have nothing left to play for, the Suns hope to conclude it on a high note by snapping their losing run against a Spurs club that has lost eight of their previous ten games.
Unfortunately for the Suns, superstar forward Kevin Durant has been ruled out for Friday’s game due to a left ankle injury.
Durant has missed five consecutive games for the Suns due to a left ankle strain, and Friday’s game will be his sixth consecutive absence. This is a significant blow to the Suns, who have struggled without Durant in their lineup, with none of their other players stepping up save Devin Booker, who has been asked to bear the weight for Phoenix. With Durant out, expect Royce O’Neal, Ryan Dunn, and Grayson Allen to play a bigger role against the Spurs.
With only one game remaining in the season following Friday’s game, it is likely that Durant has played his final game in a Suns uniform, since Phoenix plans to move him in the offseason.
Of course, Phoenix’s big three of Durant, Booker, and Bradley Beal has been a complete disaster thus far, and the Suns are anticipated to want to sell both Durant and Beal in the offseason, implying Durant’s brief stay in Phoenix has likely come to an end.
The Spurs and Suns will face off on Friday at 10:00 p.m. EST.
