Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks are returning to the NBA playoffs. However, if the Miami Heat falter again in the playoffs, he may be thinking about them.
Following the Bucks’ loss to the Indiana Pacers last season, 2025 feels like a chance for atonement. However, Marcus Morris proposed on First Take that Antetokounmpo leave the Bucks if the season ends in disaster.
“If I’m Giannis and we don’t get past the first round, I’m going to sunny, sunny, sunny, Miami,” Morris said the crowd. “It’s wide open over there, so start something new. “It’s a huge market.”
Milwaukee is a relatively tiny market compared to Miami. Antetokounmpo, on the other hand, has acknowledged his loyalty to the city.
After all, he helped them win their first championship since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson were on the team.
Since then, the Bucks have suffered some tough defeats. Most notably, they lost to the Miami Heat in the 2023 First Round despite having the No. 1 seed.
That season marked the beginning of the end, as head coach Mike Budenholzer was sacked shortly thereafter. After that, they hired Adrian Griffin, who was sacked midway through the 2023-24 season.
Now, in Doc Rivers’ first full season, the Bucks are set for another run. What happens if another quick exit occurs?
Could Giannis Antetokounmpo leave the Bucks for Miami?
At this moment, it’s difficult to say, but the Heat lack a superstar presence. After all, they dealt Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors after a nearly yearlong saga.
They’re seeking for that final piece to go alongside Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo. Bringing in Antetokounmpo would be a dream come true for the Heat. They’d have a Big 3, consisting of defense, scoring, and dominance.
Nonetheless, loyalty endures, as evidenced by some of the league’s stars. Devin Booker, for example, is loyal to the Phoenix Suns despite the franchise’s recent struggles.
The same goes for Antetokounmpo and the Bucks. There have not been many winning seasons in terms of championships. He has, however, made a commitment to put the team on his back.
At the same time, he wants his desires honored, which the Bucks accomplished by trading for Damian Lillard.
Could the Heat fulfill the same requests? Pairing him with an excellent head coach like Erik Spoelstra may make the difference. It will be intriguing to see whether the Bucks falter in the playoffs.
If they make a big run, he’ll probably stay. If not, Antetokounmpo’s time in South Beach could be limited.
