JUST IN: Mets Manager Carlos Mendoza Makes Make Decision on $75 Million Star Pitcher Sean Manaea

The New York Mets made a major move this past offseason by bringing back left-hander Sean Manaea on a three-year, $75 million deal following a strong 2024 campaign. Manaea was a key figure in the Mets’ postseason run to the National League Championship Series, throwing 181.2 innings with a 3.47 ERA, a 12-6 record, and posting 3.0 bWAR. Re-signing him was one of New York’s top priorities entering the offseason.

However, Manaea’s 2025 debut remains on hold. The veteran pitcher was sidelined during Spring Training with a right oblique strain and has yet to appear in a game this season. While he’s progressing in his recovery, the Mets are taking a conservative route with his rehab to preserve his long-term health.

MLB reporter Anthony DiComo shared an update, stating that Manaea recently underwent an MRI which showed encouraging signs. “Sean Manaea received an MRI today that showed improvement, and he resumed playing catch off flat ground,” DiComo reported. “He will not, however, progress beyond that over the next 10 days. The Mets want to make extra sure he’s fine before pushing him.”

New York’s cautious approach highlights their focus on having Manaea ready for the stretch run and potential postseason appearance, rather than rushing him back too soon. Even without Manaea, the Mets’ pitching staff has been exceptional in the early going. Through 15 games entering Monday, they led the league in ERA and home runs allowed, helping the team jump out to an 11-5 record and secure first place in the NL East.

While fans are eager to see Manaea back on the mound at Citi Field, the organization is prioritizing patience. If all goes according to plan, Manaea will return later in the season with fresh legs—and the potential to make a big impact once again.
