Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers raged during a late-night press conference, angrily refuting claims that he is seeking a trade to the Minnesota Vikings. The Jets quarterback, known for his cool demeanor and sharp tongue, went on a rage after what insiders characterized as a “tense and personal” conversation with Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah at a private league event in Phoenix.
Rodgers, who has been absent from voluntary OTAs this offseason, was already under scrutiny for his standing with the New York Jets. In recent weeks, speculation grew that he was discreetly plotting his exit, maybe to join NFC North rivals Minnesota, following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Brett Favre.
But when pressed about it Thursday night, Rodgers did not mince words.
“That’s total BS,” Rodgers said to reporters. “Let me be clear: I’m not holding out for Minnesota, I’m not talking to Minnesota, and I’m not going to follow a script from 15 years ago. “This narrative is lazy and disrespectful to me, the Jets, and the Vikings.”
According to sources, Rodgers and Adofo-Mensah met at an NFL networking event earlier this week. What began as a friendly conversation apparently escalated into a heated exchange, with Rodgers addressing the GM about alleged “tampering whispers” circulating around league circles.
“Rodgers was hot,” a club executive said anonymously.
“He felt like the Vikings had been allowing this story to fester for too long and wanted it to go down. Things became quite noisy. It certainly turned heads.”
While neither the Jets nor the Vikings have officially commented on the incident, Rodgers doubled down during a media appearance, calling the whole thing “manufactured drama” and blaming league insiders of “pushing clickbait garbage.”
“Every time I step away for five minutes, people want to stir the pot,” he added. “The idea that I have one foot out the door is ludicrous. I am committed to New York. We have unfinished business, and I am all in.
Rodgers’ outburst occurs at an important time for the Jets franchise.
Following a disastrous 2024 season marred by injuries, including Rodgers’ Achilles tear in Week 1, the team has been reconstructing its offensive around his recovery. Jets head coach Robert Saleh recently told reporters that Rodgers has been “fully engaged behind the scenes,” even though he has yet to take a practice snap. Nonetheless, the quarterback’s vehement tone and outright criticism of the Vikings GM indicate a deeper discontent, possibly with media speculation and inside league politics.
The silence from the Vikings’ top management has only fueled the fury. It’s unclear whether Adofo-Mensah will respond, but Rodgers has made it obvious that he wants the record straight—loudly. “I’m not done playing, and I’m not looking for a new uniform,” he explained before walking away. “People can stop attempting to write the end of my tale. “I’ll handle that part myself.”
