Tyler Herro helped the Miami Heat make a historic run to the NBA playoffs before sending a powerful message to the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers. The Heat guard scored 30 points, including two critical three-pointers in overtime, as the Heat defeated the Atlanta Hawks 123-114, becoming the first 10-seed in NBA history to advance from the play-in round to the playoffs.
The Heat’s historic journey began with a victory over the Chicago Bulls in the No. 9 vs. No. 10 matchup, resulting in a trip to Atlanta on Friday. When asked after the game if the team was packed and ready for their next journey to Cleveland, Herro stated that the club is prepared to face the Eastern Conference’s top seed.
“We packed for nine days, so we’re ready to roll,” Herro told me. Miami’s journey to the playoffs appeared difficult at first, with the Heat losing 10 straight games in March and losing four of their final six games before the play-in tournament.
The Heat concluded the season with a 37-45 record. Heat head coach Eric Spoelstra stated that the squad was motivated to return to the playoffs. “I know how badly our group wanted to get involved in this,” Spoelstra said. “I could see it in their eyes and feel it in their heart.”
Spoelstra remarked that the difficult journey to the playoffs made the victory much sweeter. “I’m so grateful we’re in the playoffs,” he told me. “We’re the first team to do it, and why not, to take on two road games.”
