The Atlanta Falcons have remained at 4-4 on the season after making a move Monday to help rebuild their depth at defensive tackle following Grady Jarrett’s season-ending knee injury. On Monday, the Falcons acquired Kentavius Street from the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade that saw them send a conditional 2024 sixth-round pick in exchange for the 27-year-old.

Even after adding Street to a defensive tackle position that already includes veterans like Calais Campbell and David Onyemata as well as younger players like Ta’Quon Graham and LaCale London, many expected the Falcons and general manager Terry Fontenot to stay active. When the Falcons were dealing with an injury crisis at cornerback last season, Fontenot brought in Rashad Fenton from the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of the deadline. While Fenton did not remain in Atlanta long-term, the Falcons were able to use the deadline as a short-term fix, which they could have done this year, but where?
A move for an additional edge rusher would have made the most sense, as it remains a potential weakness for a much improved Falcons defense. With 15 sacks, the Falcons remain near the bottom of the league, which could be one of the reasons for their reported interest in Washington Commanders edge rusher Montez Sweat.
The Chicago Bears, however, beat the Falcons to the punch on Tuesday, agreeing to a deal with the Commanders in which they gave up their 2024 second-round pick.
