Why Chicago Bears acquire target Montez Sweat Dealt from the Atlanta Falcons.

The Atlanta Falcons are observing the departure of a possible trade target.

The Chicago Bears are trading defensive end Montez Sweat to the Washington Commanders in exchange for a 2024 second-round pick, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Pro Football Talk claimed earlier this week that Sweat had received an offer from the Falcons for a third-round pick.

“The Falcons have offered a third-round pick for Commanders defensive end Montez Sweat; whether a trade there or elsewhere happens could depend on whether Commanders win or lose today,” PFT reports.

The Atlanta Falcons have reportedly been “standing pat” during this NFL trade

Washington Commanders Trade Deadline: Montez Sweat TRADED ...

With a 4-4 record going into Week 8, Atlanta is currently ahead of the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South.

Atlanta led the division, was 4-4 at the deadline the previous year, and wasn’t really looking to buy. In order to acquire cornerback Rashad Fenton from the Kansas City Chiefs, general manager Terry Fontenot traded safety Dean Marlowe to the Buffalo Bills and receiver Calvin Ridley to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Falcons BREAKING: Trade Offer for Commanders' Montez Sweat ...
The defensive lineman Kentavius Street was acquired by the Falcons this season in exchange for a late-round pick from the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Falcons might still be able to exert some aggression before the deadline, but time is of the essence, and Atlanta doesn’t want to watch as other teams load the field while strike three passes them by.
