The Miami Hurricanes announced on Thursday that they will officially retire former quarterback Gino Torretta’s number 13 against the Louisville Cardinals on November 18th.
“We are excited to announce the retirement of Gino Torretta’s No. 13 jersey,” said Dan Radakovich, Vice President/Director of Athletics. “Gino is the most decorated college football player in University of Miami history, and he is also a member of our Ring of Honor, which is the highest honor bestowed upon a Hurricanes football player or coach.” We look forward to honoring Gino and his family on November 18 at Hard Rock Stadium.”
Torretta went 26-2 as Miami’s starting quarterback. He led the Hurricanes to the national championship in 1991 before capturing the Heisman Trophy the following year.
Torretta is only the fifth Hurricane whose number has been retired. The others are George Mira (#10), Vinny Testaverde (#14), Jim Dooley (#42), and Ted Hendricks (#89). 
are the Hurricanes’ only two Heisman Trophy winners.
Torretta was elected into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2003, the Hurricanes’ Ring of Honor in 2008, and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009.
The number 13 is worn by two current Hurricanes players: defensive end Chantz Williams and wide receiver Michael Redding III. For the rest of the season, they’ll wear a commemorative patch on their jerseys.
