After losing to the Texas Rangers 6-1 at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, the New York Yankees optioned right-hander Yerry de los Santos back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In the defeat against Texas, De los Santos pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out five. Shortly after the game concluded, the club made the announcement on X, formerly Twitter.
“The Yankees optioned RHP Yerry de los Santos to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after tonight’s game.”
After Will Warren had his worst performance of the 2026 season, De los Santos’ relief appearance helped keep the game under control. The Rangers ended New York’s five-game winning streak while the Yankees starter gave up six earned runs on seven hits in four innings.

Nathan Eovaldi, a right-hander for the Rangers, pitched eight innings and struck out eight batters, allowing the Yankees to only muster three hits. The only bright spot at the plate was Aaron Judge, who hit his MLB-high 15th home run of the year in the top of the sixth inning.
Before the game on Wednesday, New York had called up the journeyman reliever after optioning Elmer Rodriguez, utilizing the 28-year-old as temporary bullpen depth during a period of rotation changes. After his scoreless game, his quick return to Triple-A is more indicative of routine roster management than a performance-based choice.
The Pinstripes’ lead over the Tampa Bay Rays, who are 12-3 over their last 15 games, was cut to a half-game after the loss, but they are still in first place in the AL East at 25-12.
As the division race gets closer, the Yankees will try to hold onto their narrow advantage atop the AL East in Thursday’s series finale against the Rangers.
