JUST IN : DETROIT TIGERS FIRST BASEMAN NAME TIGER OF THE YEAR.

The Detroit chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America has selected first baseman Spencer Torkelson as the Tiger of the Year.

After a hit-or-miss first season, Torkelson bounced back to record highs in Year 2. A team record 159 games were played by him, during which time he hit.233 with 34 doubles, a triple, 31 home runs, and 94 RBIs.

His 31 home runs were the most by a Tigers player since Miguel Cabrera (38) and Justin Upton (31) in 2016. They tied for the eighth-most in the AL.

Out of the 25 votes cast, 15 went to Torkelson. The votes were also cast for left-handed pitchers Eduardo Rodriguez and Tarik Skubal, catcher Jake Rogers, and outfielder Kerry Carpenter.

The Tiger of the Year Award was first given out by the Detroit BBWAA in 1965. The past winners are mentioned below.
