This season, the Boston Celtics’ goal is to win the NBA Championship. Completely finished.
They currently have an outstanding starting five, which elevates them to the top of the NBA. However, they are vulnerable in matchups against a few teams, the most obvious being the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets.
Because of the potential frontcourt disparity between the two-time MVP and the C’s frontcourt, Boston will have a difficult time matching up with Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets in an NBA Finals matchup.
To sign Isaiah Stewart, the Boston Celtics must exercise Grant Williams’ TPE option.
To address the Jokic issue, the Celtics must use their Grant Williams trade exception to acquire Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart.
Stewart’s toughness and size make him fearless in the face of any challenge. Stewart, who has a big body, would not submit to the greatness of the Joker, and that is exactly what the Boston Celtics will need in a seven-game series.
The C’s small size must be addressed. Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford are excellent big men who outperform most opponents in terms of talent, but they require a player who can come in and provide toughness when they need it.
If the Pistons’ early-season competitiveness wanes, Stewart will be a prime target for other teams looking to solve their Jokic problem. The Celtics must not be afraid to approach Detroit’s front office for a trade for any of their big men, but Stewart comes the closest to matching the Serbian superstar head-on.
Knowing Brad Stevens and his proclivity for aggressive trading, expecting them to be afraid is a fool’s errand.
Stewart is a potential needle-mover in the making for a franchise that may only need him to get to the top.
