JUST IN: Man City ‘determined’ to return for £110m summer target in January amid West Ham ‘suspicions’

Manchester City are not giving up on signing West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta, according to reports, while they await the outcome of his alleged gambling investigation.

In addition, news that City had abandoned their pursuit of the player was quickly followed by reports that Paqueta is being investigated by the Football Association for possible betting rule violations.

His failed move to the Etihad and possible investigation have had no effect on his form this season. In 15 appearances across all competitions, he has four goals and one assist.

Meanwhile, Nunes has struggled to find his feet at Manchester City, but it is still early days for a player who has joined one of the most difficult teams to fit into.

Despite the signing of the Portuguese midfielder, it has been reported that the Cityzens are still interested in signing Paqueta, who his club is said to value at £110 million.

‘The investigation that prevented the Brazilian’s transfer to City this season began last March and wants to find out if the player was given yellow cards on purpose to benefit a network of gamblers in Rio de Janeiro,’ the report adds.

On Thursday, Paqueta scored the only goal of the night as the Hammers defeated Olympiacos in the Europa League.

“We were disappointed to lose our record of 17 unbeaten two weeks ago against Olympiacos, so it’s good to get back on track,” West Ham manager David Moyes said after the win.

“We’re top of the group, we still have two games to play, but I think this is the toughest group we’ve had in our third year in it, and it’s proven to be the case.” We finished the job tonight. It’s a fantastic outcome for us.

“Europe has been great for this football club, we’ve had some great nights and long may they continue.”
