Huge Controversy: Fans of Falcons clash with head coach over Desmond Ridder choice amid ‘Beneficial Reset’

The Atlanta Falcons have a new starting quarterback, with Desmond Ridder taking over as the team’s original quarterback. Ridder was benched earlier this year after suffering an injury against the Tennessee Titans, but his replacement, Taylor Heinicke, suffered an injury of his own in the Falcons’ last game against the Arizona Cardinals, allowing Ridder to return. The young quarterback performed admirably in his replacement of Heinicke, and head coach Arthur Smith has decided to make him the team’s starter once more.

“We’d assess everything coming off the bye, and Des did a nice job having to come back in that game and give us a chance,” Smith said on the morning of the game. “We have a lot of faith in Des and believe he’s handled himself extremely well over the last few weeks.” “I believe the reset will be beneficial to him.”I believe it can be very beneficial if the right people are involved. Knowing that none of us are perfect helps, but you have your reasons. They are not simply emotional reactions.”

The bottom line is that if the Falcons want to turn their season around and compete for a playoff spot, they need positive quarterback production. Perhaps Ridder is the answer, but switching signal callers in the run-up to Thanksgiving is probably not what Atlanta had in mind when it left training camp. The Falcons are coming off a bye week and will play host to the New Orleans Saints in a crucial NFC South matchup on Sunday. The game will be televised on FOX and will begin at 1 p.m. ET.
