Dorian Thompson-Robinson of the Cleveland Browns posted an update on his health on social media after leaving Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos due to a hit to the head.
Late in the third quarter, Broncos linebacker Baron Browning delivered a hard, questionable hit to Thompson-Robinson. He was taken to the locker room, and the team later announced that the rookie quarterback was in the concussion protocol.
Thompson-Robinson took to Instagram to express his gratitude to those who were concerned about his well-being.
“He popped my a**,” Thompson-Robinson said on Instagram. “I’m doing fantastic!” “I appreciate your concern.”
Thompson-Robinson had completed 14 of 29 passes for 134 yards and a rating of 73.1 prior to the injury. In the third quarter, he connected with Harrison Bryant for his first touchdown of the season.
“Some good, some bad, some stuff that we can learn from,” Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said following the game. “(Thompson-Robinson) is fighting. Unfortunately, he took a shot there, and you never want to see your quarterback get hit like that, but he battled.”
Broncos defender defends DTR hit
The hit on Thompson-Robinson resulted in a 15-yard penalty, which some questioned, including the broadcast booth of Mark Sanchez and Kevin Kugler.
Browning defended the hit after the game but refused to debate the flag.
“I didn’t think it was a dirty hit, but they called it, so what can I do about it?” he said after the game to reporters.
Pro Bowl guard Joel Bitonio of the Cleveland Browns took a diplomatic stance on the hit but admitted he didn’t get a good perspective on the play.
“Hard to tell (if it crossed the line),” said Browns left guard Joel Bitonio. “It happened in a flash for me. I didn’t get to see where he hit him or anything like that. I know they’re trying to get rid of the helmet, even if you use it to lead to the body and such. So it looked like it got him in the chin, which is not something you want to do.”
During the game against the Broncos, Browns receiver Amari Cooper was also injured. Broncos safety PJ Locke slugged him. Cooper left the game with a rib injury, but postgame X-rays were negative. Cooper’s pass-catching partner, Elijah Moore, became enraged with Locke and confronted him on the field.
“I don’t like seeing any of my teammates fail. “Whenever someone is hurt, you have to stand up for your brother,” Moore said. “It seemed to me like a hit he didn’t have to make.” So it was more like figuring out why he did that.”
With Thompson-Robinson out with a concussion, the Browns must consider their quarterback situation against the Los Angeles Rams next week. If Thompson-Robinson cannot play, Cleveland must choose between PJ Walker and veteran Joe Flacco, who was signed on November 20.
Before making any decisions, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski wants to see how Thompson-Robinson recovers from his concussion this week.
“Let’s see how he does this week with the protocol,” Stefanski said.
Walker has had his chance at quarterback for the Browns and has not performed well. Flacco did not play in Sunday’s game against the Broncos, but he appears to be the logical choice if Thompson-Robinson is unable to play.
