JUST IN: Bears head coach Matt Eberflus and Kyler Gordon shocked by 15-yard penalty controversy with a Brutal message to NFC board

During Monday night’s game, Bears defensive back Kyler Gordon and Vikings wide receiver Brandon Powell got into a scuffle in which Powell grabbed Gordon’s facemask and yanked it with such force that it broke some of the clips that attach the facemask to the helmet. Powell should have been flagged if anyone was going to be flagged.

Imagine Gordon’s surprise when the referee called a 15-yard penalty on him, not Powell, for removing his damaged helmet.

Gordon said after the game that the officials thought he took off his helmet to taunt Powell, but he couldn’t because he was too busy trying to free his facemask from Powell’s grip.

“It’s hard to taunt when you’re pulling someone’s face down,” Gordon said, according to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.

Gordon held up his damaged helmet to show the officials why he removed it, and Bears head coach Matt Eberflus yelled at the referee, but to no avail: the 15-yard penalty went against the Bears, and Powell got away with it.
