A Cleveland Browns player has received what amounts to a symbolic suspension.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Browns receiver Michael Woods has been suspended for the final six games of the season for an unspecified violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy. The suspension is reportedly related to an incident involving Woods that occurred last summer, but no further details were provided.
Woods, 23, was Cleveland’s sixth-round pick (202nd overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he made ten appearances for the team, catching five passes for 45 yards and also seeing time on special teams.
Woods hasn’t played for the Browns this season because he ruptured his Achilles during a workout in April and was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list. As a result, his six-game suspension is meaningless because Woods would not have played in those games anyway.
Woods, a former University of Oklahoma standout, is under contract with Cleveland through 2025. In any case, Woods is not the first Browns player in recent memory to be suspended for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.
