JUST IN: Complacency at QB will keep Falcons on hamster wheel

The worst place to be in the NFL is on the hamster wheel of not being good enough to compete for Super Bowls but also not being good enough to draft a franchise-altering player. The Falcons may soon find themselves in that never-ending cycle.

Atlanta lacks an elite coach capable of getting the most out of its talent. Arthur Smith’s running game is diverse and consistently effective, but his passing concepts fall short. The offense’s talent isn’t good enough to compensate for those shortcomings, particularly at the quarterback position.

The defensive talent has improved significantly, but it is still insufficient to carry the offense. Ryan Nielsen has been a breath of fresh air; however, I believe that talent is more important than strategy on that side of the ball.

Even with the bones in place, the Falcons can win a Super Bowl. With the coaching staff in place, there is similar talent on both sides of the ball, but the most important position in sports cannot be handled complacently.

Desmond Ridder could (MAYBE) win a Super Bowl if everything around him went perfectly, but that rarely happens. The truth is that he limits the potential of this team. Ridder has the potential to develop into a capable quarterback, but his every move should be evaluated in light of the ultimate goal of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.

Complacency at quarterback will keep the Falcons stuck on the hamster wheel of never being good enough to compete for a championship while also keeping them out of a draft position to land that franchise quarterback.
