Now that Xeka, a 28-year-old midfielder, is a free agent, Everton may sign him.
After spending the previous season at Renness, the Portuguese player’s contract at LOSC Lille terminated in 2022, and the former Braga player is yet to sign with a new team.
However, teams from across the Premier League are showing interest in Xeka, including Everton, Crystal Palace, Sheffield United, and Wolves.
In an effort to sign the free agent, Championship teams Southampton and West Bromwich Albion have also contacted him.
According to TEAMtalk, in addition to clubs in France, there is also interest in the midfielder from teams in Spain, Italy, and Turkey.
Xeka might be an affordable addition to Sean Dyche’s team.
The 28-year-old played 33 times as LOSC Lille unexpectedly won the French Ligue 1 during the 2020–21 season.
In fact, Xeka played 144 times for the French team throughout his six years at the Stade Pierre Mauroy before spending the 2017–18 campaign at Rennes, a team in the same division.
The Portuguese midfielder’s time at Rennes, however, did not go as planned because he had an ankle injury that necessitated surgery earlier this year.
The 28-year-old did, in fact, only make 8 league games during his tenure at Rennes, but he will undoubtedly now be eager to restart his stagnant career somewhere else.
Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gana Gueye, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and James Garner are among the alternatives for Everton in the middle of the field. James Garner has also recently been used as a winger.
The Blues now appear prepared to let Andre Gomes, a countryman of Xeka, leave, with Turkish club Fenerbahçe hoping to reach a deal for the 30-year-old before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.
Indeed, it appears like Everton may wish to let Gomes go and replace him with a less expensive replacement who will get a smaller wage.
