JUST IN: Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans has this to say on QB outlook for Sunday, Kicking game & tight ends | Fans Wanna Know

Walker, Joseph: Mr. Drew, Why would the Texans not start Case Keenum, who has more experience and has won more games?
DD: Who’s to say they won’t?

C.J. Stroud, the starter, is still in the concussion protocol and did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday. Backup Davis Mills replaced Stroud late in the fourth quarter on Sunday, but head coach DeMeco Ryans hasn’t said whether Mills or Keenum will start at Tennessee.

What Happened to C.J. Stroud? Latest Injury Update for Houston Texans QB

Both are capable and have prior experience. Both are preparing as if they are the starter, as they do every week.

Mr. Justin Storey: Mr. Drew, What happened to our field goal kicker, and when will he be back?
DD: Ka’imi Fairbairn has returned. Matt Ammendola was released on Tuesday, and Fairbairn practiced fully yesterday and today.

He’ll be the guy again in Nashville on Sunday, his first appearance in a game since the Buccaneers’ win at NRG Stadium on November 5.

Fairbairn made 18 of 19 field goal attempts in 2023.

‘It’s comforting to have three quarterbacks who can go out there and play,’ says head coach DeMeco Ryans.
Head, Bryan: Mr. Drew, Why are the Texans logos on the video board inside the stadium replacing extra point and field goal kicks?
DD: It’s an NFL requirement because, in the past, some teams would display distracting videos and images in the hopes that the opposing team’s kicker would miss.

Texans' Davis Mills claims improvement quarterback

Mr. Frank Sanchez: Mr. Drew, Why haven’t we made better use of our tight ends?
DD: Ending on a cliff This season, Dalton Schultz has been productive. He’s caught 40 passes for 455 yards and five touchdowns in 11 games.

Stroud, who led the league in passing yards entering last weekend, has a group of wide receivers who are all explosive in their own way. Nico Collins has already surpassed 1,000 yards this season. Tank Dell, a rookie, leads the team in touchdown catches with seven and averaged 15.1 yards per catch when he played. In November, Noah Brown had back-to-back games with over 150 yards receiving, and Robert Woods has also been a consistent and reliable option for Stroud.

I’m not convinced it’s a case of underutilization. It’s more of a byproduct of the wide receivers’ outstanding play.
