DONE DEAL: Top club insider confirm Houston Texans sign veteran quarterback Amid CJ Stroud Injury

Tim Boyle, who was recently released by the New York Jets, has found a new team. After working out the veteran quarterback on Tuesday, the Houston Texans are reportedly signing him.

Boyle appeared in two games for the Jets in 2023, starting in Weeks 12 and 13 against the Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons, respectively. Unfortunately, the New York franchise lost both games, effectively ending Boyle’s career with the team.

Boyle was released by the Jets two days after making his debut against the Falcons on December 3. However, as previously stated, his free agency didn’t last long, as the Texans signed him as they prepare for Week 16, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

“The Texans have signed former Jets quarterback Tim Boyle to their practice squad, according to a source.” “Today, Boyle worked out for the team,” Garafolo reported.
It will be interesting to see how Boyle fits into the team’s future plans. It’s worth noting that he’s 0-5 as a starter in the NFL. He completed 41 of his 63 passes for 327 yards and one touchdown in two starts with the Jets in 2023. He was also sacked eight times and had three interceptions.
Why is former New York Jets quarterback Tim Boyle being signed by the Houston Texans?

The signing of Tim Boyle by the Houston Texans comes on the heels of reports that CJ Stroud may not be ready for Week 16 against the Cleveland Browns.

There have been rumors that Stroud will be sidelined as long as he is in the concussion protocol. Case Keenum remains the Texans’ backup quarterback, and he performed admirably in his Week 15 start against the Tennessee Titans.

However, having Boyle on the practice squad gives the Texans some peace of mind as they enter an important stretch of the season.

The Texans initially targeted Nathan Rourke and made an off-waiver claim for him, but the New England Patriots outbid them for his services. They then turned their attention to the former New York Jets quarterback.
While Boyle did not impress with the Jets, he does have some starting experience, which the Texans hope will provide some stability if his number is called.
Following the Browns, the Texans’ final two games of the season are against the Tennessee Titans and the Indianapolis Colts. It remains to be seen whether Boyle will get a chance to play quarterback for Houston.
