This weekend, Gary Neville rendered his decision on Abdoulaye Doucoure’s penalty claim.
The Sky Sports expert suggested that Doucoure dived as he went down inside the area after an apparent foul by Arsenal.
Everton suffered their first home defeat over Arsenal since 2017 as Leandro Trossard’s second-half strike proved decisive at Goodison Park.
Everton’s defense looked impregnable for much of the game as they attempted to continue their excellent run against the visitors.
However, the hosts were defeated as Trossard tucked away a stunning goal, leaving Jordan Pickford useless in goal.
Despite only surrendering one goal at home, Everton fans will be disappointed with the team’s performance. However, if Sean Dyche’s team had been awarded a penalty on the half-hour mark, things may have gone very differently.
Saliba appeared to have caught Doucoure as he raced into the box, despite very little touch. The 30-year-old dropped to the ground and wanted a penalty kick, but Neville called him out for diving.
Everton’s penalty claim featured ‘typical’ Abdoulaye Doucoure.
“No way, no how. “He worked hard for it,” Neville remarked.
“He sticks his leg out, pulls it out, and Doucoure dives.” It’s very foreseeable.”
The midfielder had one of the Toffees’ rare chances, and while many fans were displeased with the VAR decision, no issues were raised in Sky Sports’ analysis.
When the final whistle blew, the home side was met with a chorus of boos, leaving the Merseyside club in the Premier League’s relegation zone after four defeats in five games.
