DONE DEAL: Falcon have completed and announced the signing of NFL top linebacker from San Jose, California, after Releasing punter Pat O’Donnell.

On Tuesday, the Atlanta Falcons made two roster moves in preparation for their Week 17 matchup against the Chicago Bears. The first of these actions was to re-sign linebacker Frank Ginda to their practice squad. Ginda, a 26-year-old from San Jose, California, has been on and off the Falcons’ practice squad all season, but has only played in preseason.

Ginda has failed to play in a regular-season game despite being a member of four separate NFL teams. His efforts outside of the NFL, however, are far more remarkable. He led the NCAA with 173 total tackles in 2017 at San Jose State, and he was named USFL Defensive Player of the Year earlier this year with the Michigan Panthers. Every addition must be accompanied by a comparable subtraction, and in this case, the Falcons released punter Pat O’Donnell. Atlanta signed O’Donnell, 32, in late October because Bradley Pinion was injured. However, Pinion returned for the Falcons’ following game against the Tennessee Titans, relegating O’Donnell to the practice squad.
O’Donnell averaged 45.1 yards per punt in his previous nine NFL seasons with the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers.

Notably, this series of movements effectively reverses the Falcons’ decision to sign O’Donnell to the practice squad while releasing Ginda on Friday. The Falcons will hit the field next on Sunday, needing a win over the Bears to keep their playoff hopes alive.
