JUST IN: Miami football is ready for a fresh start after an overall unsuccessful season

Miami football is ready to move on from an overall disappointing season marked by mind-boggling errors and unmet expectations. No one, however, appears to be more eager to get to 2024 than Mario Cristobal, following his dubious decision-making in the Pinstripe Bowl against Rutgers.

Instead of attempting to reclaim the ball from the Scarlet Knights in the final seconds, the Hurricanes’ head coach used his two remaining timeouts. Miami would still have needed a miracle, but that is something that any team should be willing to accept when facing terrible odds. Furthermore, the Canes might not have been in this precarious position if Cristobal had used better time management throughout the game, which they eventually lost 31-24.

These gaffes follow the former Miami offensive tackle (1989–92)’s decision not to execute a quarterback kneel in what should have been a resounding victory over Georgia Tech in October. The Hurricanes fumbled, and the Yellow Jackets punished them by scoring on an unlikely drive. Frustration has grown since then, but the conclusion of Thursday’s bowl game has left everyone even more perplexed.
