DONE DEAL: Brown head coach Kevin Stefanski has confirm and announced the surprised signing of veteran Quarterback From Arizona Cardinals practice Squad After Clinching Playoff Berth

Following their stunning win over the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football, the Cleveland Browns have officially clinched a berth in the postseason. Quarterback Joe Flacco has been playing well and has the Browns offense flowing just as the regular season comes to a close. However, just one day after the stunning win, the team acquired an experienced quarterback to the active roster.

To back Joe Flacco, Cleveland has signed veteran quarterback Jeff Driskel to the active roster. The 30-year-old was a member of the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad this season before joining the Browns’ main roster. This season, Cleveland has suffered multiple significant injuries, including season-ending injuries to quarterbacks Deshaun Watson and Dorian Thompson-Robinson. This move was most likely taken in case the 38-year-old Flacco suffered an injury during the team’s postseason run.

Driskel has played for clubs such as the Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, and Houston Texans. He hasn’t been on an active roster since the Texans in 2022, when he had 108 passing yards and a touchdown in seven games. Since joining the league in 2018, the veteran has accumulated 2,228 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

While Flacco has established himself as the primary quarterback in Cleveland, the organization appears to be playing things safe in case he suffers a terrible injury. Driskel has been a reliable backup throughout his career and may fit in nicely with the Browns’ offense. With Flacco, the club is functioning at a new level, and having another veteran as a backup could be the team’s saving grace if something bad happens.

Cleveland is now 11-5 and second in the AFC North, which is fiercely contested. With a playoff position already secured, the Browns still have a chance to steal the division title from the Baltimore Ravens if they lose their next two regular-season games. Will Joe Flacco continue to show that he is still capable of playing at an elite level, or will the Cleveland offense come to a halt in the postseason?
