The Pittsburgh Steelers are in an intriguing position in the AFC playoff chase right now. They are the 10th seed in Week 17 with an 8-7 record. This season, the Steelers have used a variety of quarterbacks under center. Something that can be disappointing for a team that appears to have a championship-caliber defense.
Several recent stories indicate that the Steelers may be able to put a long-term plan in place at quarterback sooner rather than later.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are apparently looking for a quarterback and have been linked to current Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson in 2024.
“Who are the most intriguing places to visit?” “They have a good roster, a good team, and they could use a quarterback upgrade,” Gelb added. “How about the Steelers from Pittsburgh?”
Because the Steelers lack quarterback play, they have two receivers who are probably on the edge of killing each other in George Pickens and Diontae Johnson. Mason Rudolph simply played well, and now he’s taking the place of a first-round pick from two drafts ago. If they can stay healthy, you have a defense with a lot of talent. You also have Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris on the ground.”
What kind of impact would Wilson have on the Steelers?
First and foremost, there is stability. Wilson has completed 66% of his throws for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns, and only eight interceptions this season. The Broncos are 7-8 entering into Week 17 after a 1-5 start to the season. Wilson was benched after a six-game winning streak ended in back-to-back losses.
It’s also evident that Denver simply wants to go in a different path next season. If Pittsburgh is able to acquire Wilson under center, the elite defense Wilson would have behind him could be enough to make them competitive in the AFC conference again.
