ESPN NEWS: Falcons increasingly likely to make coaching change with Falcon Owner Arthur smith already in talks with prolific NFC top coach

According to a new story, Arthur Smith’s time in Atlanta may be running short.

According to Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post, Smith is increasingly likely to be dismissed by the Falcons. Those who spoke with owner Arthur Blank at recent league meetings believe that a coaching search is approaching, and that it would be “shocking” if Smith is given another year.

Smith’s job was considered to be relatively safe less than a month ago, unless the Falcons finished the season very poorly. Atlanta is 1-2 since that report, but they lost in terrible ways to the lowly Carolina Panthers and were blown out by the Chicago Bears by 20 points. Smith has alternated between Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke at quarterback, which does not appear to be helping his cause.

Smith’s 9-7 loss against Carolina appears to have been a watershed moment for him, and not in a good way. There has also been growing criticism of Smith’s use of the team’s stable of skill players, so many fans will be relieved if he is sacked.

Smith was named as Atlanta’s head coach before the 2021 season and has a record of 21-29 in three seasons.
