Matthew Stafford was one of the few bright spots in the Detroit Lions’ football team from 2009 to 2020. During his decade-plus in Detroit, the former first-round pick put up some outstanding stats on some downright terrible Lions teams.

Now, he’ll play in Detroit for the first time in his career, as the Los Angeles Rams travel to Detroit for the NFC Wild Card Round next weekend.

On Sunday, the Rams defeated the 49ers, 21-20, while the Lions defeated the Vikings, 30-20, to set up the game. Los Angeles is the NFC’s sixth seed, while the Lions are the third.

 

It will be the first playoff game played in Detroit since January 8, 1994. The stakes are already high, but with Matthew Stafford in town, it’s the ideal tale.

Stafford passed for over 45,000 yards and 282 touchdowns in his twelve seasons in Detroit, setting team records by leaps and bounds. The overall record of 74-90-1 is not great, but when compared to other Lions quarterbacks this century, it is fantastic.

Matthew Stafford appeared in three playoff games for the Lions, all of which he lost. Stafford won a Super Bowl after being traded to the Los Angeles Rams at the end of the 2021 season.

It’s going to be a wild weekend in Detroit next weekend.
