GOOD NEWS: 5-star Auburn WR target backs off Alabama pledge and is now set for a senastional switch to the Tigers

Following the announcement of Nick Saban’s departure, 5-star wide receiver Ryan Williams has reopened his recruitment with a Feb. 9 final decision date.

Williams, an Auburn alum, had been committed to Alabama since October 8, 2022. He recently moved from the 2025 cycle to the 2024 cycle, and he now ranks as Alabama’s No. 10 player, No. 3 wide receiver, and No. 2 player.

Alabama is expected to make an official visit on the weekend of January 20, Texas on the weekend of January 27, and Auburn on the weekend of February 3. The signing period begins on February 7, and Williams intends to sign on his birthday, February 9. Why was Auburn chosen for his final official visit?

“I was sitting in Coach Freeze’s office and he said, ‘I call the last visit,'” Williams recalled at the Under Armour All-America Game.

Hugh Freeze and Marcus Davis have pressed Williams hard since his arrival at Auburn.
“As everyone says, the legacy. My father attended there. “They were already in the neighborhood,” Williams explained. “I mean, that’s the main point.” Come be a game changer. Change the story. “Be the first to do it.”

Auburn has already signed 5-star receivers Cam Coleman and Perry Thompson, as well as Top247 receivers Malcolm Simmons and Bryce Cain. Coleman has designated Williams as “the last infinity stone” and the final member of the “Freeze Five.”

It’s unclear whether his formal visit schedule will change, with recruiting trips resuming on Friday.

“The reason I am signing on my birthday is because that’s when my dad signed,” he remarked. “That’s something I always wanted to do.”

Williams’ father, Ryan Williams, was a defensive back for Auburn in the late 2000s. Prior to the dead time, the Williams was on campus in December for a bowl practice and a USC basketball game.
