BREAKING NEWS: Bears reportedly firing of a long-time Bears top Personnel and chief contract negotiator is evoking an angry response from NFC world and Bears team

He revealed the dismissal of a long-serving employee. A former member of the Bears’ personnel department has reacted angrily to one of their front-office employees.

Cliff Stein, the Bears’ principal contract negotiator for the most of his 22-year tenure with the team, has been sacked, according to Brad Biggs of the Tribune.

Stein joined the Bears in 2002, when team president Ted Phillips had been negotiating contracts. Stein performed this for 13 years before Ryan Pace took over as general manager. The duty was then taken over by Joey Laine, but Stein stayed on staff and briefly resumed it when Ryan Poles came over as GM, prior to Matt Feinstein taking over.

The rumoured firing infuriated former Bears college scouting director Greg Gabriel, who expressed his displeasure via social media. Gabriel worked for the Bears until 2010 and has been involved in football scouting or media for the past 40 years.

Gabriel, who can be found on X at @ggabefootball, played for the Bears under Angelo and is now involved in media as a host for “Gabriel Talks Football,” which airs on the Barrroom Network. He also contributes to the Windy City Gridiron website.

First, Gabriel stated on X, “For the time being, my account will remain private.” I will not post on the Bears because they are not the organization I used to work for. Any thoughts on hirings, signings, trades, picks, and so on will be sent to @WCGridiron and GTF on the @BarroomNetwork. In a nutshell, (Expletive) em!”

Gabriel threatened to uncover some skeletons in Halas Hall’s closets at one point, tweeting, “Tune in Tuesday at 11:00 to GTF on the @BarroomNetwork as I will tell some stories I have remained quiet about for some time.”

Changes in the front office at Halas Hall were presumably to be expected, given that new president Kevin Warren has been at Halas Hall for almost a year and is familiar with their operations, as well as what he mentioned at the postseason press conference.

“I watch everything,” Warren explained. “From practice to walk-throughs to games, I had one-on-one meetings with over 211 of our employees.” This is my existence.”

More adjustments at Halas Hall in the near future would not be surprising given what he indicated.
