The general manager of the Cleveland Browns, Andrew Berry, conducted his season-ending news conference on Monday.
Berry gave supporters some food for thought this offseason, though nothing really shocking was mentioned.
Whether head coach Kevin Stefanski will remain the offensive coordinator for the Browns is one of those items.
According to this tweet from Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Berry stated that Stefanski will ultimately make the decision and that it will depend on how the staff works out.
As Cleveland looks to bolster its coaching staff, Berry sidestepped a few queries on coaching.
However, the dismissal of Alex Van Pelt, the offensive coordinator, raised questions among supporters regarding the play-calling.
Is Stefanski going to be willing to forfeit that?
Though he wasn’t with AVP, how about right now?
That will mostly depend on who they choose to hire as the new offensive coordinator, as Berry stated.
Several names have already been mentioned, including Ken Dorsey, the former quarterback for the Browns who was fired earlier this year as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator.
As reported by Mary Kay Cabot on Twitter, Berry also disclosed at his news conference that the new offensive coordinator won’t “necessarily have a connection to Deshaun Watson.”
Instead, they will search for the most exceptional individuals.
I appreciate the Browns’ strategy.
It broadens their candidate pool and might make room for someone to enter and seriously push Watson in terms of coaching.
Watson will have a lot of responsibility for the upcoming season.
It will be vital that he gets along with the new OC, whoever that may be.
It remains to be seen if it is the one giving Watson the play-calls in his ear.
