Signees from Florida included in the last edition of the Top247 rankings for the class of 2024
On Monday afternoon, 247Sports released the most recent update to the Top247 rankings for the class of 2024. Most of these names have already signed, and Florida has, for the most part, really put the finishing touches on the class of 2024. With 19 students, the Gators class started the day as the 15th best high school class in the nation according to 247Sports team rankings. The Top247 includes a number of UF’s 2024 signees, some of whom have already registered on campus to participate in spring football. Swamp247 examines those names.
5-STAR quarterback DJ LAGWAY
The Gators’ 2024 recruiting class’s jewel. Lagway joined the class in December 2022 and stayed devoted throughout the year until signing a contract this past December during the Early Signing Period. Since then, Lagway has enrolled at Florida, where he is already participating in coursework and the spring football season. Following a senior season in which he rushed for 957 yards and added 16 touchdowns and passed for 4604 yards and 58 touchdowns, Lagway was named the Maxpreps player of the year and the Gatorade National Player of the year. Florida, who was in desperate need of a quarterback, now has the top-ranked quarterback in the nation (according to 247Sports) and the third-best player overall (according to the Top247).
5-STAR DL LJ McCray
In the 2024 cycle, the Gators added a fifth-star player and another player at a position in need of improvement. When McCray committed to the Gators in late October of last year, they seized the opportunity to sign him in December during the Early Signing Period, despite efforts by others to flip him. According to the most recent Top247 rankings, he is the top-ranked defensive lineman and the fourth-ranked player overall. Florida has needed to add more great players to that room in addition to continuing to bring in bodies for their front line. The Gators see McCray’s ability to manoeuvre around their front line because to his combination of strength and length. He will participate in spring football and has already arrived in Gainesville for the spring semester. Getting him into the program ahead of schedule will assist put him on a fast track to try and make an impression as a freshman, so that’s wonderful.
LB AARON CHILES 4-STAR
In the most recent rankings update, the Florida signee shot up to No. 83 overall and No. 6 among linebackers in the final Top247 rankings. He was selected the Gatorade player of the year for the state of Maryland following a stellar senior year in which he reportedly accounted for 122 total tackles (22 for a loss), 15 sacks, two forced fumbles, two blocked punts, and one blocked extra point. Chiles verbally committed to the Gators during the summer and did not visit any other programs after that. Although he signed with the Gators in December during the Early Signing Period, he won’t actually start the program until the summer. Even though he might not be allowed to play spring football in Gainesville, his stature and football IQ should help him succeed in college right away.
LB Myles Graham, 4-STAR
Linebacker No. 9 and final Top247 update ranking No. 114 overall is another Gators signee at the position of linebacker. Over his high school career, Graham has demonstrated his athletic ability on the field by playing both linebacker and running back. The Florida staff concentrated on linebackers during this cycle, and they have already signed, sealed, and delivered two extremely talented players. Graham will participate in spring football and has already enrolled at Florida for the spring semester. The coaching staff is enthusiastic about the Florida legacy and believes he can make significant progress this spring to earn a spot in the starting lineup for 2024.
OT FLETCHER WESTPHAL 4-STAR
This cycle, the Florida staff has focused on improving the offensive lineman position and has added a few players to the roster from the transfer and high school categories. In the 2024 case, Westphal was the Florida staff’s primary target. The most recent rankings update places him as the No. 12 ranked offensive tackle and No. 128 overall. This year, Flordia gained some veteran tackles via the portal, but Westphal will still have the opportunity to work with the team throughout the spring to see if he can contribute from the start. He moved in and started taking school for the spring semester right away.
TE AMIR JACKSON 4-STAR
Jackson is one of the few names in the Gators 2024 class that has not enrolled for the spring semester. Being a top player on the hardcourt, he desired to stay in high school for the spring basketball season to play for his team. At the high school level, he has mostly been a pass catcher, but he still needs to improve as a blocker. That will happen eventually, and starting a weight program at college will help his body bulk up as well. As of right now, 247Sports’ most recent rankings have him ranked 152nd overall. He signed with the Gators in December after making a commitment to the team this past summer, despite several other colleges still vying for his attention.
RB Kahnen Daniels 4-STAR
Daniels advanced a few more spots in the recent update after making his Top247 debut in the previous one. In the final Top247, he now stands at No. 175 overall. This follows a successful senior year in which he was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Mississippi and won a state championship. Following a senior year in which he amassed 2,730 yards and thirty touchdowns, this occurred. He has already registered for the spring and will have an early opportunity to contribute to the Gators’ offensive scheme. Strong at running, he will work nicely in the run-game approach that the Gators employ.
WR JERRAE HAWKINS, 4-STAR
With Hawkins, speed is the essence of the game. Having participated in the exclusive IMG Academy program last year, he is among the fastest names in the class of 2024 and has improved as a senior on the football field. In Florida’s offseason training regimen this spring, he will have the opportunity to put some more muscle on his bones. He is also another speedster moved out wide. Since Billy Napier’s arrival, the Gators have sought to improve their speed at the position, and they succeeded admirably in luring a player of Hawkins’ calibre. His total ranking is No. 240, and he is the last name in the Gators 2024 class to appear in the Top247 rankings.
