The university declared on Tuesday that Uga X, the English bulldog who guarded the sideline during the most prosperous period in Georgia Bulldogs football history, had passed away. He was ten years old.
Once called Que, the mascot was formally christened Uga X on November 21, 2015, during a collaring ceremony. Georgia went 91-18 under his leadership as mascot, won two SEC titles, two national championships, and seven New Year’s Six bowl trips.
The Bulldogs athletic department shared on X on Tuesday, “He will always be remembered as a Damn Good Dawg.”
After the 2022 season, Uga X retired, making way for Boom (Uga XI).
In 2019, Uga X gained global attention for his heated pregame confrontation with Bevo XV, the Texas Longhorns’ mascot, at the Sugar Bowl.
Bevo surged toward Uga, smashing the metal barricades around him and causing a little mayhem as Uga scrambled out of the way, just as the handlers for Bevo XV and Uga X attempted to arrange the two for a pregame photo session.
Before Uga or any onlookers could be harmed, Bevo’s handlers had the 1,600-pound steer immediately herded into place and secured. After the chaos subsided, Bevo returned to his original pose, facing the stands, for the photo session.
