Less than three weeks have passed since Arthur Smith was let go as the Atlanta Falcons’ head coach, but he might not be out of a job for very long.

As many as seven clubs are interested in signing Smith as their offensive coordinator, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.

The Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Seattle Seahawks are among the teams searching for a new offensive coordinator.

On the other hand, following the dismissal of their head coaches, the Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers, and Titans are also anticipated to search for new offensive coordinators.

If any of the aforementioned teams receive an opportunity to take on head coaching, other offensive coordinator positions could open up with the Detroit Lions (Ben Johnson), Houston Texans (Bobby Slowik), Miami Dolphins (Frank Smith), New York Giants (Mike Kafka), and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Dave Canales).

Before taking over as head coach of the Falcons for three years, Smith was the offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans for two seasons. He was elevated from tight ends coach to offensive coordinator after Matt LaFleur left to become head coach of the Green Bay Packers.

Before emerging as one of the best offensive teams the following season, Tennessee finished third in rushing (138.9 yards per game), 10th in scoring (25.1 points per game), and 12th in overall offence (362.8 yards per game) in Smith’s first season as offensive coordinator.

In 2020, the Titans’ offence was among the best in the NFL, finishing third in overall offence (396.4 yards per game), fourth in scoring (30.7 points per game), and second in rushing (168.1 yards per game).

In that particular year, running back Derrick Henry became just the eighth player in NFL history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season with 2,027 yards, setting a new career high for touchdown passes completed by quarterback Ryan Tannehill (33 total).
