Berea, Ohio — At the end of the 2023 season, the Cleveland Browns overhauled their offensive staff, firing running backs coach Stump Mitchell, not retaining tight ends coach T.C. McCartney, and parting ways with offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.
The Browns hired Duce Staley for the vacant running backs coach post, a league source confirmed to News 5.
Staley, who most recently worked as the Carolina Panthers’ running backs coach and assistant head coach, was a leading candidate for the job after the Browns interviewed him last week.
The former NFL running back and Eagles coach was part of Philadelphia’s Super Bowl LII winning team. Staley has been coaching since 2011, serving as a quality control coach, running backs coach, and assistant head coach for the Eagles, Lions, and, most recently, Panthers.
Prior to his coaching career, Staley played for the Philadelphia Eagles and later the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Following his interview with the Browns, Staley pursued other leads, including the New York Jets. Staley chose the job with the Browns over the job in New York.
The Browns have been striving to fill the remaining offensive positions that have opened up, and they will continue to do so during the offseason.
