TRADE UPDATE : Trade Idea Between LA Clippers and Toronto Raptors Proposed

Teams are determining their course of action as the NBA trade deadline draws near. At the deadline, the LA Clippers’ front staff might have a strong argument for remaining put or, at worst, making a small trade. The Clippers have won 20 of their last 24 games and have the best record in basketball since December 1st. Since acquiring James Harden, they have played like the unstoppable juggernaut that everyone predicted they would be. There are nearly always moves on the edges that can be done to strengthen a roster, even though LA’s recent success helps support the idea of staying put at the deadline.

To help make up for some of the depth they lost in the James Harden deal, the Clippers may see that in the form of a versatile forward off the bench. The Toronto Raptors’ Chris Boucher and Otto Porter Jr. were suggested as the Clippers’ likely targets in a recent piece by Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report. Unlike sourced news, this is obviously just a hypothetical trade notion, but the Clippers could make sense out of it. Boucher’s versatility across positions for his stature may make him the more appealing choice, but the Clippers are unlikely to commit the $10.8 million he is owed for next season to a guy who might not have a clear route to rotation minutes. Regarding Porter, it could be far more prudent to accept his $6.3 million contract before it expires. Given that he has only played in 15 games for the Raptors this season due to injury, Porter is unlikely to cost much at all. As a result, the Clippers may decide to make a relatively low-risk trade before the deadline to add more wings to their roster.
