In-state sophomores are seldom offered by Minnesota head coach PJ Fleck and crew, but this week saw Rocori offensive lineman Andrew Trout become the first in-state player in the 2026 class to receive a Gopher offer. Yesterday, the gifted sophomore made his way back to the University of Minnesota campus and gave a synopsis of his experiences with GopherIllustrated.
It was a great success. During this week’s visit, I had the opportunity to spend about an hour talking with head coach PJ Fleck in addition to taking a thorough tour of the academic side of the school, Trout said. They are unquestionably among the best academic FBS institutions, in my opinion. I’m not sure what I want to major in exactly, but I think it will probably be business-related.”
“And then when we went into Coach Fleck’s office, me and my dad had a list of questions for him, so it was more of a question and answer conversation than anything,” Trout recalled. “Coach Fleck handled it really well. He could respond to every query on the list.
I can declare with confidence that Minnesota is my top choice of universities after our visit yesterday. For me, proximity to home, academic standing, and coaching are the top three priorities. Minnesota also meets all of those requirements. Michigan State is the only other destination I have planned for next weekend.”
