The Montreal PWHL signed two more forwards to contracts before the final PWHL season-opening rosters were announced on Tuesday. Tereza Vaniova, a Czech international, signed a two-year contract, while NCAA graduate Gabrielle David signed a one-year contract.
Vaniova, 27, agreed to a two-year deal with the team. In the 2023 PWHL Draft, she was selected in the seventh round, 42nd overall. She was most recently with the Toronto Six in the PHF, where she scored the Isobel Cup-clinching goal in overtime. She is an international player for Czechia, and she had two goals and four assists in five games at the 2022 Olympics.
In 34 World Championship games, she has nine goals and ten assists. She will compete in Montreal alongside her Czechia teammate Dominika Lásková, with whom she has been friends since they were 13 years old. She also played professionally in Sweden in addition to the PHF.
She has played on a line with Marie-Philip Poulin and Maureen Murphy during the preseason, as well as on the top power play unit. She will be expected to contribute offensively to the Montreal team.
Gabrielle David, a Drummondville native, signed a one-year contract. David, 24, was selected 54th overall in the ninth round. She’ll make her professional debut.
She graduated from Clarkson University last season after playing 135 NCAA games in her career. She finished with 149 points after scoring 58 goals and 91 assists. She represented Canada at the 2017 World Under-18 Championships.
She will be one of the team’s youngest forwards and will be expected to provide depth scoring for the Montreal team. Only Claire Dalton is younger among forwards.
Montreal now has 17 players under contract, including two goalies, four defenders, and 11 forwards. The remaining 23-player roster will be revealed on Tuesday, when the six teams finalize their rosters for January.
