According to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger, the Miami Hurricanes hosted Kansas State transfer quarterback Will Howard on Monday, and former Washington State signal caller Cameron Ward will visit the Hurricanes on Tuesday. Ward is still thinking about going to Florida State or entering the NFL Draft in 2024, according to On3.
Ward’s visit with the Miami football team will be his first since entering the transfer portal. Ward is also considering visits to Auburn, Nebraska, Oregon, USC, Washington, and Wisconsin, in addition to Florida State. Ward is reportedly the top transfer quarterback Miami is interested in.

After three-year starter Tyler Van Dyke announced his intention to leave the Hurricanes following the final regular season game against Boston College on November 24, Miami became a major player in the search for a transfer portal quarterback. The transfer portal went live on December 4th.
Ward completed 65.5 percent of his pass attempts for 6,968 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions in two seasons at Washington State, while also rushing for 202 yards and 13 touchdowns. Ward transferred from FCS Incarnate Word to Washington State in 2022. Ward is a hybrid of a pro-style passer and a dual-threat quarterback.
Ward completed 66.6 percent of his passes for 3,736 yards, 25 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 2023, while also rushing for 144 yards and another eight scores. Ward was a teammate of Miami middle linebacker Francisco Mauigoa at Washington State during the 2022 season. Ward received Pac-12 Honorable Mention honors in 2022 and ’23.

According to the 247 Sports portal rankings, Howard is the 15th overall transfer and the fourth quarterback. Howard completed 61.3 percent of his passes for 2,643 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 2022, while running for 351 yards and nine touchdowns. Howard is the most experienced true dual-threat transfer quarterback.
Adding Howard or Ward to a top-five recruiting class would be significant for the Miami football team, which is in its third season under Mario Cristobal. According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Miami currently has the sixth-ranked 2024 class. Judd Anderson, a three-star prospect, is the only quarterback in Miami’s 2024 class.
