SAD NEWS: Broncos Officially Mourns The Passing of Key Player and Former Pro- Bowler

Englewood, Colorado — The Denver Broncos have lost a starter from their Super Bowl XXXII title club.

Former Broncos linebacker Allen Aldridge Jr. died at the age of 52.

Aldridge, whom the Broncos selected in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft, appeared in 64 games and started 45 of them during his four seasons in Denver from 1994 to 1997. In 1997, he started 15 out of 16 regular-season games and all four playoff games as the Broncos won their first World Championship.

 

In the 1997 AFC Championship Game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Aldridge made a crucial leaping second-half interception in the end zone to keep Denver’s 10-point lead intact. He also recovered a fumble and made 11 total tackles during the Broncos’ playoff run to the Super Bowl.

Aldridge, a Houston native and University of Houston alumnus, has 230 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a fumble recovery, and two forced fumbles during his time with the Broncos.

Following the 1997 season, Aldridge joined the Detroit Lions, where he played for four seasons.

Aldridge returned to the field to coach following his playing career, and he has been the head football coach at Fort Bend Bush High School since 2008, according to the Houston Chronicle.
