Fans of the New York Jets are already making the connections.
Tony Dews is joining Gang Green “as their next running backs coach,” according to a post made on Twitter by CBS NFL Insider Jonathan Jones on Friday, January 26. Dews had been employed by the Tennessee Titans since 2018 prior to joining the Jets.
Jets supporters were requesting that Dews “bring Derrick Henry with him.” Could you picture Henry and [Breece] Hall going one-two?
On social media, a fan retorted, “Derrick Henry didn’t become good until Dews was his coach.”
There is some validity to that when you examine the statistics. Henry totaled 1,234 rushing yards in his first two seasons.
But Henry saw a sharp increase in his performance and output after Dews joined the team in 2018.
Over the next six seasons, he recorded at least 1,000 rushing yards in five of them. Henry only failed to recover from his injury-related eight-game suspension in 2021. Henry was on a remarkable pace to surpass 1,991 rushing yards before his injury.
Henry has amassed 9,502 running yards, scored 93 touchdowns, and averaged 4.7 rushing yards per clip throughout his eight seasons in the NFL.
