ESPN NEWS: NFL and Commanders Insider provide details update Commanders-Ben after Lions playoff loss Negotiations Johnson head coaching

The Detroit Lions’ remarkable season came to an end with a heartbreaking loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. Now, rumours about Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson likely resurface, as both coordinators have been popular choices in the head coaching cycle. The Washington Commanders appear to be Johnson’s favourite, as Peter King confirmed in his most recent Football Morning In America episode.

The coaching/coaching-agent business believes Detroit offensive coordinator Ben Johnson will be hired by the Commanders. Along with drafting a quarterback at No. 2 overall (or somewhere, if new GM Adam Peters trades out of two), Washington owner Josh Harris appears to be burying the Dan Snyder Era once and for all with a new franchise quarterback, a QB-whisperer of a coach, and a progressive GM trained in the 49er way.

Johnson has had several interviews this cycle, but the only available positions are with the Commanders and the Seattle Seahawks. With the Lions’ season coming to an untimely end, it is possible that the Commanders may make it official with Johnson within the next week. Dan Quinn had been and continues to be the Seahawks’ top candidate, but he also interviewed for the Commander position.

With the Super Bowl matchup decided and two weeks until the final game of the NFL season, the head coaching search should be over. Of course, things may change at any time, but all indications point to him landing his first head coaching position in Washington.
