According to rumours in Brazil, it seems unlikely that Gustavo Scarpa, a midfielder for Nottingham Forest, would make a move back to Palmeiras in the upcoming January transfer window.
The player signed a season-long loan agreement with Olympiacos in the summer, but earlier this week there were rumours that Palmeiras and Flamengo, a rival Brazilian club, were interested in a possible move for him in the winter window.
Scarpa departed Palmeiras for Forest in January on a free transfer, but he only made six Premier League appearances for Forest before the season ended due to a combination of personal issues and injuries. Since moving to Greece, Scarpa has made five appearances across all competitions; most recently, he substituted in the second half of the Super League match against AEK Athens last weekend. However, he did not play in the Europa League match against Freiburg on Thursday night.
Despite the rumours, it is now asserted that a return to Brazil is not likely. According to Sport Witness’ translation of UOL journalist Flavio Latif, Palmeiras do not currently have plans to sign the player.
The 29-year-old played 211 times for the Brazilian team while there, making 51 assists in addition to his 37 goals. The midfielder impressed with his first few cameo outings for the team, and Forest was moved by his performance in Brazil.
He will try to get back into shape for Olympiacos this year. Scarpa’s contract at the City Ground expires in the summer of 2019, therefore after his loan period is through, he will be free to join another team.
